ABSTRACT

Part II, consisting of eight chapters, has described various data and information management technologies for the web. Chapter 8 discussed database systems for the web. It also included a discussion of web architectures as well as digital libraries. Chapter 9 described web data mining. Both mining data as well as mining usage patterns were discussed. Chapter 10 provided an overview of security and privacy issues. The focus was mainly on privacy violations due to web mining. Chapter 11 discussed metadata management for the web. We also included a discussion of ontologies and the emerging standard XML. Chapter 12 provided an overview of multimedia for the web as well as collaboration. It also discussed other technologies such as training, real­ time processing and visualization. Chapter 13 discussed knowledge management and decision support for the web. Agents for the web were the subject of Chapter 14. Finally, Chapter IS described some tools for web data and information management.
