ABSTRACT

In developing fruit business in Gannan, the southern part of Jiangxi Province, the major problems were loss of soil and water, low use of land, and low benefit in a short time. Interplanting with grass, forage and cash crops is a main measure of water and soil conservation. By planting Paspalum notatum; designing “hillside ditch,” introducing grain amaranth from America, and developing breeding and stereoscopic management, a good rotation of fruit-amaranth-pigs-marsh-fruit has been formed. Comprehensive benefits of orchards have been realized. The coverage of orchards has increased, the use of land has increased. Soil erosion should not be neglected when developing a fruit estate. Control of soil and water based on local conditions and the ecological environment of orchards should be considered when financial benefit is gained. Models of multi and comprehensive management have boomed in every field of work and have gained obvious benefits of ecology, economy and society and is an effective way of sustaining orchards.
