ABSTRACT

Feline Urological Syndrome (FUS) Feline Urological Syndrome appears to be a multiple factorial

problem of the urinary tract of cats . 1 14 A common subset of this syndrome is urolithiasis . Urolithiasis refers to the development of mineral concretions within the urinary tract. This leads to urinary bladder inflammation, blood in the urine, and frequent attempts to urinate. The concretions are composed of sand-like material containing magnesium ammonium phosphate and pro teinaceous material and are called struvite uroliths.46 Particu larly in male cats, this material can lodge in the urethra causing an obstruction to the passage of urine.
