ABSTRACT
This chapter provides the basis for the remainder of the book, describing the environmental sources and chemical properties of perchlorate. It also presents five case studies of sites where perchlorate contaminates groundwater, soil, or surface water. Those case studies illustrate the scientific and engineering principles described in this book.
