ABSTRACT
User computing and application development has taken on greater importance in organizations because of the perception that users can develop applications faster and cheaper than the information systems (IS) group. Many of these applications have become critical to sales, operations, and decision making. However, there are many risks associated with user computing that need to be managed to protect resources and ensure information integrity. What is needed is a commitment to manage user computing to take advantage of speed and flexibility while controlling risks.
