Theimplementationofinformationtechnologyleadstochangesinthestructureof jobsandotherorganisationpractices.Frequentlythesemattersaredealtwithinanad hocwayasproblemsariseandconstituteapiecemealandunsystematicwayofchanging fromoneformoforganisationtoanother.Itisastrangecounterpointtotheplanning ofthetechnicalsystemwhichisoftenhighlystructuredandrational.Theendresultis oftentensionandconflictinthesocialstructureandanunder-utilisedtechnicalsystem. Theaimofthischapteristobringthejobdesignandorganisationalchangeissuesinto theplanningdomainwheninformationtechnologysystemsarebeingcontemplated.
