ABSTRACT

In a current research program under the heading “Investigations on the use of plants for dewatering of sewage sludge” we are engaged with hygienic-bacteriological experiments. In the framework of this project the feasibility is investigated to dewater sewage sludges in filter beds which are planted with reed (Phragmites communis). The investigations are performed in a fullscale pilot plant in the sewage works of a municipality in the vicinity of the City of Ulm. For the experiments digested sludge, aerobically stabilised sludge or not stabilised surplus sludge from predominantly municipal sewage were used.
