ABSTRACT
It is well known that by the use of lime as quicklime (CaO) or Calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) the concentration of bacteria and viruses is reduced with raising pH by the antimicrobial effect of the alkalinity. According to Tullander (2) three main principles for the technical treatment of sewage sludge are observed: 1. before thickening, 2. before dewatering and 3. after dewatering.
