ABSTRACT
Thispapergivesageneraloverviewoftheapproachtoforecasting domesticelectricityrequirementsthatistakenbytheelectricity supplyindustryinEnglandandWales.EachyeartheElectricity Council,asthecentralco-ordinatingbodyoftheindustry,adoptsa forecastofelectricityneedsforthenexteightyearsahead.This paperdealsprimarilywiththeforecastingmethodswhichareusedby theElectricityCouncil'sstaffinpreparingestimatesforthis mediumtermforecastingperiod.Itisworthnotingthattheindustry alsoneedsforecastsfortheshortterm(onetotwoyearsahead)and forthelongterm(uptothirtyyearsahead),andthesewouldbe preparedusingasomewhatdifferentmethodologyfromthatdescribed below.
