ABSTRACT

For design purposes only the expected range of short term demand patterns may be required. However, for operational control purposes it is necessary to be mote specific, and to be able to predict the expected demand patterns for each succeeding control period. When adequate demand predictions are available the control objective can include the achievement of least cost operation. Under such control 10 per cent savings in energy costs are entirely realisable. Since the U.K. water industry presently spends approximately £75 million per annum on electricity charges for water supply and distribution, there is every incentive to develop and implement short term demand prediction schemes.
