Successfulseedinfectionisthemostimportantaspectofseedtransmission forpathogens.Generally,plantpathogenscanbedividedonthebasisofwhether ornottheyareseedtransmitted.Forapathogentobeseedtransmitted,itmust infectorinfestseedswithinoculumcapableofcausingdiseaseinplantsafter planting.Evenifaseedcarriesapathogen,ifthepathogenisnotcapableof causingthedisease,thenitisconsiderednottobeseedtransmitted.Aninfected plantdoesnotnecessarilyresultinseedinfectionorinfestation.Successfulseed infectionwhereseedtransmissionhasbeenshowndependsuponanumberof factors,includinghostgenotype,environment,cropmanagement,typeofinoculum,seedquality,plantgrowthstages,motherplantinfection,insectinfestation, andpathogeninteraction.
