ABSTRACT

Seeds remain viable for many years. Crop seeds with low moisture content remain viable for longer time periods when stored under low temperature. Crocker1 listed the life span of many crop seeds. The longevity of seedbome pathogens can be independent of the seeds they inhabit and depends on the capability of the pathogen to remain viable as well as virulent from one season to the next in or on seeds. The longevity period of certain seedbome fungi, bacteria, nematodes, viroids, and viruses is given in Tables 6-1 to 6-4.
