Epidemiologyisthestudyofthedevelopmentandspreadofdiseaseinoculum andofthefactorsaffectingtheseprocesses,1anddealswiththeeffectsofthe biotic(hostandpathogen)andabioticenvironment.VanderPlank2defined epidemicsasthescienceofdiseaseinpopulationsinvolvingthepersistenceand spreadofinoculumandenvironmentalfactorsaffectingdiseaseincidenceon particularplantpopulations.Epidemiologicalstudiesareimportantindisease forecastinganddiseasecontrol.VanderPlank2appliedmathematicalmodelsto epidemiologicalstudiesofplantdiseases.Plantdiseaseepidemicreferstothe developmentandrapidspreadofadiseaseonaparticularkindofcropcultivated overalargearea.3Epidemicsdevelopwhenasusceptiblecultivarisplantedover alargeareainthepresenceofavirulentpathogencoupledwithafavorable environment.Thedevelopmentanddeclineofepidemicsisabalancebetween inoculumpotentialanddiseasepotential:
