ABSTRACT

Douglas in a number of papers and in his textbook "Conceptual Design of Chemical Processes" (McGraw-Hill, 1988). The chemistry and the reaction section are presented in Chapter 13. As you recall, the reactor is operated adiabatically at high temperature and pressure. The reaction occurs in the gas phase. A large excess of hydrogen is used to suppress cracking. The hot reactor effluent is used to preheat the cold feed. A large gas recycle stream from the separator drum is compressed and fed back to the reactor inlet.
