ABSTRACT
Chapter 6 was concerned with the vibration and noise measurements normally made on a gearbox under operating conditions. However when problems arise we must return to the source of the vibration and measure T.E. since this is the only relevant measurement of the basic excitation that drives all the vibration. There are many possible approaches to measuring T.E. but, in practice, the use of digital encoders dominates the field.
