Equal Temperament E 12 was already known to A. Werckmeister (this is obvious from his book “Erweiterte und verbesserte OrgelProbe,” 1698) and is commonly used in the present day. The se quence of real numbers E u = { v ^ ; z G Z} defines fully this tone system.
