ABSTRACT

The analysis of the energy of particle attachment to the gas-liquid interface is another approach for describing the stability of bubbleparticle aggregates. The conditions of mechanical equilibrium of a particle attached to the gas-liquid interface are obtained by minimizing the free energy of the capillary system with the attached particle. Furthermore, the energy of detachment can be determined. It is the energy required to move the particle back to the liquid phase. These two physical principles will be outlined in this chapter.
