ABSTRACT

Oilseed crops are grown primarily for the extraction of edible oils for human consumption as well as nonedible oils for industrial use. In addition, these crops provide a valuable source ofprotein, which is present in the residue after the extraction of oil. The specific analytical requirements of both the oil and the residue after extraction make it necessary to preserve carefully the genetic purity of the oilseed. Even a small contamination of the oilseeds with other genetic material may render the oil of inferior quality or contaminate the protein meal with toxic substances. The seed grower should, therefor~, be careful to avoid mixture or contamination from undesirable pollen during seed production.
