ABSTRACT

Maintaining vital functional properties such as flexibility, adhesion, water repellency, and impermeability is of central importance. Preserving decorative features such as gloss, distinction of image, color, and freedom from biological attack can have aesthetic as well as practical significance. However, most common polymeric binders do not possess, by themselves, sufficient resistance to the effects of light, heat, and environmental agents. The manifestations of binder polymer degradation as a result of weathering

are commonly observed as a decrease in coating mechanical properties, loss of gloss, chalking, fading, yellowing, surface cracking, and peeling.
