ABSTRACT

The NTM are variably distributed in nature. Hence, their presence in nonsterile spaces or tissues of the human body means that they may be there as colonizing or sapro phytic microorganisms. Hence, when we refer to disease, we are talking about cases in which there are not only significant numbers of mycobacteria in the tissues but where the tissues are sufficiently inflamed or damaged to be characterized as diseased.
