are parts that can not be eliminated. For a part to be a theoretical part, it must receive a "yes" answer to at least one of the following critical questions (Boothroyd, Dewhurst, and Knight, 1994):
1. Does the part move relative to other parts? 2. Must the part, for good reasons, be made of a different material? 3. Does the part need to be separate for assembly or service?
