ABSTRACT

The fine-grained wrought Pb-Ca and alloys possess improved material integrity and also exhibit improved corrosion perfonnance, as they tend to undergo unifonn corrosion. The corrosion resistance of these alloys is higher than that of antimony alloys in many applications. The higher solidification temperatures and narrower freezing ranges of cast calcium (and calcium-tin) alloys can require higher casting and mold temperatures than antimony alloys to prevent rapid freeze-off. However, the quicker solidification time allows a faster production of large cross-section castings.

6. Pb-Cd Alloys The extent of use of binary Pb-Cd alloys is not very significant. However, large amounts of Cd are used in low-melting Pb solders. Small additions of Cd with Sb and Sn fonn constituents of cable sheathing alloys and pipe alloys. Pb-Cd alloys are of interest in storage batteries because of the lowest possible self-discharge.
