ABSTRACT

High finned tubes can be made in a wide variety of configurations, but for economic reasons manufacturers prefer to limit the variations to a few standard sizes and types. The most popular base tube is 1.0 in. o.d., and this size accounts for about 75% of all tubes produced. Smaller diameters are usually unacceptable because of difficulty of cleaning the inside of the tube. The 1.25and 1.5 and 2.0 in. o.d. tubes are used to gain lower in-tube pressure drop. Tubes larger than 2 in. o.d. are only used for serpentine coils, to carry a large flow in a single path.
