ABSTRACT

Comprehensive models for casting process simulation usually solve the energy and momentum equations and hence, can take into account mold-filling phenomena. These models generate the most accurate and comprehensive information about the casting processes. In theory, these simulations can easily encompass macroscopic models, such as turbulent flow and mass transport, as well as microscopic models, such as solidification kinetics. Details for using comprehensive models have been described in Chapter 2. In general, comprehensive casting simulations involve the following steps:

Solid modeling: Accurately input solid models or convert geometry data through electronic data exchange to the format that a particular simulation package can accept.
