ABSTRACT

The Passenger Car Tire Committee of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) developed a Recommended Practice (SAE J918) to provide minimum requirements and ''uniform laboratory test procedures for evaluating certain essential characteristics of new tires intended for use on passenger cars.'' One of the characteristics determined was the ability of the tire to carry safely the load imposed on it by the vehicle, its passengers, and cargo.
