ABSTRACT

We have all heard over and over again that the future of health care is dependent on the best practices and outcomes. Recently at the Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) survey, the surveyor, Robert Wright, asked me why services in occupational health and industrial rehabilita tion were any better than the other local hospitals and for-profit providers in southeastern Michigan and nationally. I responded that I had spent 3 years gather ing data on our value. I reported that our aim is to provide workers’ compensation injury/illness treatment without the high cost of indemnity (lost work days) and excessive medical procedures in order to be a low-cost provider and increase employee productivity at work.
