Anumberofretinoid-bindingproteinshavebeendiscoveredinthelastseveral decades.Theseintracellularandextracellularproteinsplayimportantrolesin retinoidtransportandmetabolism(recentlyreviewedinRef.35).Oneofthese proteins,cellularretinol-bindingprotein,type2appearstoplayan importantroleindirectinganimalAmetabolismduringabsorption.Presentation ofthepropertiesofthisproteinisnecessarybeforevitaminAmetabolismwithin theenterocytecanbeconsidered.Mostoftheworkdiscussedhasbeendonewith thefromratunlessotherwiseindicated.
