Potassiumchlorideisfairlysoft,withahardnessindexof2ontheMohsscaleandbehaves inabrittlemannerwhensubjectedtoimpact,grinding,shear,andabrasion.Consequently, allhandlingofpotassiumchlorideproductstendtoproducedust.Potassiumchloride productisnotconsidereda''hazardous,""dangerous,"or"toxic"substanceinCanada andtheUnitedStatesandthereforeitisnotregulatedunderlegislationspecifically coveringtheseissues.Forexample,potassiumchlorideisnotspecifiedintheCanadian TransportationofDangerousGoodsAct[lJ,norinthecorrespondingU.S.classifications fordangerousgoods.However,asindicatedlaterinthissection,variousjurisdictionsat thenational,state,provincial,orevenmunicipallevelhaveregulationsgoverningthe typesandlevelsofdustthatmaybedischargedintotheatmosphere.
