ABSTRACT
Inequality (3) is known as integral form of the dissipation inequality. The previous Lemma asserts that the dissipation inequality holds with equality along optimal solutions. Actually, equality (4) characterizes optimality for the stable regulator problem, but not for the free regulator problem. We did not state this formally in order to stress the fact that we are not going to use this converse implication.
