ABSTRACT

Integrated circuit screening requirements originated in the late 1950s and early 1960s from the requirements of the Department of Defense's Minuteman I Missile Program. In the 1960s and through to the mid 1980s a 100% screening mindset, on the part of the users, prevailed as the means of ensuring defect-free high-quality ICs; screening was the magic elixir. Since then much has changed. The level of integration has increased dramatically, as has the quality of the ICs produced.
