ABSTRACT

The development and implementation of nonvolitional nutrition support techniques has greatly altered the nature of health care today. This therapy, which has been widely available for more than 20 years in the hospital setting, is being more frequently applied to the home environment, allowing to leave the hospital patients whose only alternatives were prolonged hospitalization or death. The results are decreased hospital costs and an improvement in the quality of life for many individuals.
