ABSTRACT

In this chapter we have assembled a review of the various resin options and attempted to show how resins are selected given the constraints of cost, part size, and performance requirements.

The reader will become aware that the number of available resins is too numerous for us to describe them all. We do, however, divide the resins into classes, and provide the names of manufacturers and the trade names of a few representatives of each class. The same is true for the myriad of additives and modifiers used in conjunction with resins. We have selected what we consider good examples of a given class, but do not endorse the selection of any material. The message of this chapter is that there are not good and bad resins, but good and bad applications for each class of resin.
