ABSTRACT

Harvesting berries by hand is a labor-intensive process that accounts for 60 to 70 percent of the labor needed for these crops. The berries are harvested either by hand or machine. By hand, a person can harvest about 9,18, or 22 pounds (4, 8, or 10 kg) per hour of black currants, red currants, or gooseberries, respectively (Harmat et al., 1990).
