ABSTRACT

Substantial progress has been made in our understanding of physiologi cal mechanisms in seeds that confer the ability to germinate under stress conditions. Parallel to this progress is a series of agronomic changes, in cluding (1) shifts to earlier planting dates and tillage practices; (2) greater expectations of precision and uniformity in seedling establishment; and (3) double-cropping systems that require continued seed research and new strategies for reliable crop production.
