ABSTRACT

Phenolics are the important phytoanticipins in plants. They are detected as soluble forms in cytoplasm and are wall-bound in cell walls. They are inhibitory to pathogens at high concentrations. Their content increases rapidly in resistant interactions, while such an increase is not usually observed in susceptible interactions in the early stages of infection. The role of phenolics in disease resistance is described in this chapter.
