Is overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) a useful measurement for a machine that is not a bottleneck?
The basic assumption built into OEE is that the machine being measured is a bottleneck, meaning the speed and capacity of this machine determines — or limits — your production rate. The purpose of OEE, in such a case, is to identify ways to maximize its throughput. If that is the case, the calculation is relatively straightforward.
