ABSTRACT

In recent years, the senior author of this chapter has written extensively about processing of crop residues to improve their nutritive value. A chapter entitled “Postharvest Treatment of Fibrous Feedstuffs to Improve Their Nutri­ tive Value” by G. C. Fahey, Jr., et al. (1993) was published in Forage Cell Wall Structure and Digestibility edited by H. G. Jung et al. This book was prepared in conjunction with the International Symposium on Forage Cell Wall Structure and Digestibility held in Madison, WI in October 1991. In April 1994, the National Conference on Forage Quality, Evaluation, and Utilization was held at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. From the conference came a text entitled Forage Quality, Evaluation, and Utilization edited by G. C. Fahey, Jr., et al. (1994). A chapter in the text “Modification of Forage Quality After Harvest” by L. L. Berger et al. (1994) covered many of the same processing methodologies outlined in the above-mentioned chapter.
