ABSTRACT
In the past, animals were fed on farm-produced feeds, and the manure pro duced was regarded as a scarce and valuable commodity for maintaining soil fertility. As long as the manure was used on the farm, nutrients remained within the cycle, except for some losses associated with storage, transport, and nutrients deposited in milk and meat.
