ABSTRACT

Day rose heavy and hot, but the wind whispered in the fie ld beyond the sod house as i f murmuring delightful se­ crets to itself A light breeze entered open windows and gen­ tly touched those asleep inside. A finger o f warmth, laden with the rich, sweet odor o f earth, lightly touched Ju ju ’s cheek-rousing her this morning as it had often in her nine years o f life. On most days, Juju would lay on her straw mat and daydream, languishing in the glory o f waking to an­ other day on Mother Earth. But nothing was normal on this morning. This day was different-fu ll o f surprises and ex­ citement. Juju and her mother Lanruh were setting out on adventure today-and Juju couldn ’t wait.
