ABSTRACT

To facilitate compliance with the work-site evaluation process in identi­ fying any and all confined spaces, OSHA has designed a decision flow chart (see Figure 3.1).

During the evaluation survey process, if confined spaces are identified, then the determination must be made whether or not they are “permitrequired” or “non-permit” confined spaces. To do this, you must be famil­ iar with OSHA’s definitions for both. Recall the definitions in Section 2 .2 :

(1) Non-permit confined space is a confined space that does not contain or (with the respect to atmospheric hazards) have the potential to contain any hazard capable of causing death or serious physical harm.
