ABSTRACT
The theory of constraints (TOC) is a body of knowledge about systems and the interaction of their component parts. It was evolved over approximately a 10-year period by an Israeli physicist named Eliyahu M. Goldratt. And the theory is still evolving today. TOC is composed of a collection of principles, a set of generic tools, and the specific applications of those tools. The principles explain systemic interactions and guide management action. The tools are specific methods and procedures for applying the principles in discrete situations. The applications are specific instances where the tools have been successfully applied often enough to qualify as a generic solution.
