ABSTRACT

Most of the herbicides now used for control of aquatic weeds have low toxicity for human beings and other warm-blooded animals. Many herbicides are harmless to fish at concentrations necessary to control weeds. In some situations, it wou ld sometimes become necessary to preserve some plant growth on the banks and to a lesser extent in the water to maintain a stable water course and to provide a suitable habitat for fish and wi ldl i fe . In such cases, herbicides showing selectivity are usually preferred in most situations of weed control on the banks. In the water, most submersed species w i l l spread rapidly into space vacated by others. This makes it necessary to adopt total weed control by non-selective herbicides.
