ABSTRACT

In some higher taxonomic categories, the taxa studied exhibit similar modes (types) of microsporangium wall formation. Thus, for example, the centrifugal type of development has been described in orders Ebenales, Gentianales, Dipsacales, Polemoniales, and the centripetal in orders Commelinales and Liliales. On the other hand, both the centrifugal and centripetal types (with the basic type included in the latter) have been described in a number of families, such as Capparaceae, Brassicaceae, Sterculiaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Rosaceae, Zygophyllaceae, Apiaceae, Verbenaceae and Solanaceae (Batygina and Kolesova, 1983; Belyaeva and Rodionova, 1983; Rodionova, 1983; Savina, 1983; Kamelina, 1985b; Mandrik and Petrus, 1985; Freiberg, 1987a, b; Grevtsova, 1987; Zhukova and Poddubnaya-Amoldi, 1987).
