ABSTRACT
From the human viewpoint, development of the plant cover in the boreal zone was quite dramatic: glaciations, transgressions, epochs of superactive volcanism. Pinus pumila Regel is oft considered a “long-suffering” species, made prostrate by cruel fate and remaining so a defective tree struggling for survival in places where no “normal” tree can grow, and oppressed by erect neighbors.
