ABSTRACT

Scientists at Belarusian SRI of Plant Protection determine through research (1998-2000) that during plant vegetation cucumber and tomato fruits are damaged by infectious diseases. Late blight. Disease agent-fungus Phytophthora infestans de Bary. From surface and inside the tomato fruit the tissue turns brown but remains solid; fungal sporulation does not form. Grey mould. Disease agent-fungus Botrytis cinerea Pers. On tomato fruits small-size, aqueous, light green, round spots with a concentric zone develop. Later the spots merge, their centre turns white and sunken and the edge rises. The tissue begins to rot and is covered with grey sporulation. Plant-top rot. Disease agent-bacterium Pseudomonas lycopersici Burgwitz. At top of green fruit an aqueous spot appears, greyish-green, pale brown and brown, flat or sunken, dry, solid with concentricity. Ascochytosis. Disease agent-fungus Corynebacterium michiganense Jensen. In cucumber fruits the tip is damaged, softened, dries up; on lengthening, many fruits are deformed, can crack, and sometimes are covered with pycnidia. Bacterial cancer. Disease agent-bacterium Corynebacterium michiganense Jensen. With seed infection, tomato fruits exhibit no infection signs.
