ABSTRACT
Research was conducted on kankung (Ipomea aquatica) and mukunuwenna (Alternanthera sessilis) at the Horticulture Research and Development Institute at Gannoruwa in Kandy District. The location, elevation, temperature and mean annual rainfall of the site are 7° 17'N, 80° 28'E, 488 a.m.s.l., 24.4°C and 2088 mm respectively. The experimen tal design was a completely randomized block design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications. Three soilless cultures (hydroponic sys tems)—NFT, coir bag and deep troughs-were compared with soil culture.
