ABSTRACT

Although the Hordeun bulbosum method is still being used widely, the potential of anther/microspore culture is remarkable when we consider the efficiency of DH production per flower. It needs to be mentioned that a flower of barley contains only one ovule against roughly 8000-9000 microspores. Great strides have been made during the last years in androgenesis; however, the low embryogenesis capacity and the high albinism rate of some genotypes still remain obstacles to be overcome before the total potential of the technique can be exploited.
