ABSTRACT

More than 875 species of insects and mites may occur on different species of Citrus throughout the world (McLaren, 1978). Insects, like pathogens, were inherent components of the citrus ecosystem in the primary forests of the ancient world. With commencement of domestication of different citrus species, their introduction into different countries, varietal improvement and large-scale cultivation through application of chemical technologies, caused some of these insects to become severe pests, destroying their mutual existence with predators and parasites and disrupting ecological harmony. Insects with high powers of dispersal and rapid reproductive rates have the greater potentiality for becoming severe pests.
