ABSTRACT

Commercially grown transgenic crops are, in fact, the culmination of many rigorously applied screening procedures in product development-right from the concept stage to the commercial product. Ultimately, the product is expected to express the transgene (herbicide, insect, or pathogen resistance) in the field as initially designed. In addition to optimal expression of the transgene, environmental impact, food and feed safety of the product are equally important considerations in the commercial deployment of transgenic crops.
