ABSTRACT

Saffron can be grown in a wide range of soils, with moderate structure and well infiltration, clay, siliceous, ferrugenous and gypsyferous soil are preferred. Since with soils rich in calcium, high amount of organic matter is facilitated, this type of soil is recommended (36). Barshad (6) claims that deficiency of calcium carbonate in soils may have a negative impact on productivity of saffron. Calcium carbonate has been reported (16) to facilitate availability of trace elements for saffron.
